About the role
We’re looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Service Technician ensure our assets remain safe, reliable, and compliant and to be the first responder for breakdowns across the network. You’ll play a key role in maintaining essential services for millions of people while driving innovation to improve network performance.
This role takes you across Sydney Water’s remote, unmanned sites – from pumping stations, reservoirs to water gauges and focusing on our pressure reduction valves (PRV) – Located across our vast network area. If you’re proactive, skilled in mechanical maintenance, love driving from job to job and ready to make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you.
- Respond to faults and support reliability: Act as first responder for mechanical PRV issues, while assisting network teams to maintain asset reliability.
- Maintain PRV’s and assist with renewals: Provide expertise to maintain or assets and assist with renewal and replacement of end-of-life assets.
- Manage sites and risks: Oversee site operations during incidents and plan with network teams to manage safety, customer, and environmental risks.
- Monitor and report asset health: Conduct condition assessments, failure prevention monitoring, and detailed reporting.
- Communicate and coordinate: Provide real-time updates to internal stakeholders and work closely with Sydney Water’s delivery partners.
- Field-based flexibility: Start and finish on-site using mobile technology, participate in afternoon/standby rosters, and travel across all Sydney Water network areas.
Sydney Water will provide you with a vehicle, phone, training and all equipment including PPE!
The role has an afternoon shift into standby component with a current frequency of 1 in 4 and is field based, starting and finishing in the field working in all weather conditions.
Who are we looking for?
You must have a current Mechanical Fitter Trades qualification with some industry experience in the field and a current driver’s license. This role requires flexibility to work afternoon shift as needed and travel to various sites within Greater Sydney
With safety at the forefront, you have previous experience working alone with the ability to manage your workload to achieve outcomes.
- Relevant Mechanical Fitter trade qualifications, NSW Driver’s License and WHS General Construction card
- Valid or ability to obtain: Confined Space certificate including maintaining fitness, LOTO & FIFM procedures, and working near heights.
- Relevant knowledge: Experience with pressure reduction valves (PRV’s).
- Highly desirable - proven current knowledge and experience in network asset maintenance and operations.
- Ability to work in unfavourable weather conditions and comfortable working with water and wastewater
- Self-motivated and managed, with a positive attitude towards innovations, utilising smart technology and adapting work practices to drive efficiency.
- Ability to work alone or in a mixed trade team.
- Someone who likes driving as we have a large area to cover with a small team.
