Who are we and What’s the role?
Network Operations’ role is to provide timely and accurate response to facility breakdowns, high voltage asset maintenance, operation of the network, assessment and resolution of issues /enquiries for reported network faults, and requests to renew / adjust / extend the network in a safe, customer centric, environmentally responsible and cost-effective manner.
This role will see you conduct preventative maintenance checks and conditional assessments across water and wastewater networks continuing to safeguard Sydney Water’s existing assets.
- Driving to various locations within Greater Sydney according to an inspection program
- Conducting field inspections on a variety of Sydney Water assets, including but not limited to water mains, surface fittings, sewer maintenance holes and sewer lines.
- Reading operational maps and taking notes on the condition of assets
- Entering data and reporting asset condition by creating Work orders using electronic devices such as computers and smart phones.
- Ensure corrective action requests (corrective Work Orders) are raised for asset safety, condition and environmental related issues identified

- Please note: this role involves physical labour where you will be outdoors, traversing various types of terrain and lifting equipment in excess of 25kg, for 5 or more hours a day.
It will also involve working near raw sewerage and although PPE (such as gloves and gumboots) will be provided, you must comfortable with coming into contact with raw sewerage.
Who are we looking for?
This role will suit someone who is a self-starter and can manage their own time effectively.
You will have experience in field maintenance roles and ability to undertake manual labour tasks as well as computer literacy for data entry purposes.
Knowledge of water / wastewater would be highly advantageous.
- Must hold a current C-Class (or higher) driver license and WHS General Construction Induction card.
- Ability to read and understand operational maps, and utilise electronic devices and software to create reports and raise corrective work orders.
- Ability to work within a team and engage with people at all levels of internal and external stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes and common goals.
- Confined spaces entry ticket (or ability to obtain immediately upon appointment)
- A Certificate III in Water Industry Operations or ability to obtain within 18 months of appointment.
- A Certificate IV in Water Industry Operations (Specialisation in Networks) OR ability to obtain within three years of appointment.
