About the role

An exciting permanent opportunity has become available for a Business Customer Consultant to join the Customer Experience team within Sydney Water.

This senior, field-based position is responsible for managing relationships with Sydney Water’s complex, high-value, and high-risk business customers who require non-standard servicing solutions. Based at Potts Hill, the role involves regular travel to various Sydney Water sites and depots.

The successful candidate will possess technical expertise in trade waste and backflow prevention, ensuring customer compliance with Sydney Water’s regulatory requirements. You will leverage your strong communication and negotiation skills to engage with senior stakeholders, foster strategic partnerships, and deliver mutually beneficial outcomes.

A key focus of this role is identifying and presenting opportunities to promote unregulated products and services, enhancing customer engagement, water efficiency, trade waste management, and sustainability outcomes.

Note: This role requires the use of a Sydney Water fleet vehicle in accordance with the Sydney Water Fleet Policy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage directly with complex, high-value, high-risk and other allocated business customers as the key relationship lead from Sydney Water to build and maintain a successful relationship between our companies
  • Represent Business Customers and Sydney Water in critical and challenging negotiations both internally and externally
  • Ensure that our complex, high-value, high-risk business customers are compliant with their contractual obligations to Sydney Water, under the Customer Contract and any additional agreements
  • Evaluate, implement and monitor high-risk trade waste discharge approvals. Use business tools to establish and maintain customer compliance
  • Investigate and report on trade waste incidents and take appropriate actions to ensure customers rectify problems and reduce or eliminate risks to sewer discharge

About you:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Valid C Class driver’s licence.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a relevant role with a proven track record of achieving objectives.
  • Experience in the water industry or in managing on-site wastewater pre-treatment systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver programs and services to business customers.
  • Strong understanding of the commercial and industrial impacts on water authority operations.
  • Technical knowledge of program delivery mechanisms tailored to diverse business customer needs.
  • Proven ability to work safely in field environments.
  • Plumbing industry qualifications are desirable but not essential.
