About the role
In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of innovation—transforming how Sydney Water uses data. We’re moving beyond traditional reporting to deliver advanced analytics and actionable insights that drive smarter decisions for our growing city.
As a key member of the team, you will:
- Lead the creation of Sydney Water’s AI/ML Centre of Excellence, setting the vision and building a community of practice.
- Champion best practices in AI/ML, acting as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert across the business.
- Shape enterprise-wide AI/ML initiatives, delivering impactful solutions that make a real difference.
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Working with Data Architects and Data Engineers to source the data needed to build analytic model.
- Organising data into usable formats
- Building predictive models
- Building machine learning algorithms
- Enhancing the data collection process
- Processing, cleansing & verifying of data.
- Analysing data for trends and patterns and to find answers to specific questions.
- Generating information and insights from data sets and identifying trends and patterns
- Selecting appropriate datasets and data representation methods
- Defining, scoping, and planning data, information and analytics projects to meet business requirements.
About you
- Degree qualifications in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a similar field, or equivalent experience in Data Science field. Master’s degree qualifications will be highly regarded but are not essential.
- At least 2 years’ experience as a Data Scientist or similar role
- Good understanding of mathematics, probability, statistics, and algorithms
- Strong expertise and experience with data structures, data modelling and ETL process
- Experienced in generating information and insights from data sets and identifying trends and patterns
- Experience with data visualisation tools such as Microsoft Power BI or Tableau
- Good scripting and programming skills in Python, R, SQL
