Civil Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Civil Engineer to support in providing technical expertise, strategic advice, and leadership to help optimise asset lifecycles and enhance service delivery. This person is required to look for ways to improve how engineering contracts are managed to boost efficiency and optimise both our Contractors’ and Sydney Water’s performance.

You will ensure Sydney Water meets Regulatory requirements and ensure the protection of our customers; our employees and the Sydney Water networks and associated infrastructure.

The Developer Technical Services team provide technical advice, review designs and technical documents, and manage engineering contracts. What you will be doing: 

  • Contribute to the identification, creation and active management improvement of technical specifications, standards and guidelines related to Civil engineering. 
  • Support senior engineering staff Growth & Development team to provide technical advice, SME and risk management advice for Civil and Pipeline engineering. 
  • Drive innovation, particularly in digital and sustainable infrastructure approaches, where appropriate and consistent with Sydney Water’s corporate strategy. 
  • Support in design review, produce and update standards, implementing the Engineering Assurance framework, product evaluation and technical support as required. 
  • Support for the commercial framework in place with the design review process 
  • Provide specialised technical support to the Growth and Development team 

 About you:  

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil discipline, that is recognised under the Washington Accord or Engineers Australia, with relevant experience in Civil Engineering. 
  • A driver's license (C class) is required 
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in Civil and Pipeline design. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in civil, structural and hydraulic design of utility pipelines 
  • Knowledge of design and construction practices associated with trenchless technologies 
  • Ability to think critically, apply a commercial and customer mindset and creatively problem solve 
  • Ability to build trust, strategically influence and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Ability to manage contracts and audit work 
  • Experience managing projects with multiple stakeholders 
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to consult, negotiate, and work under pressure – to liaise effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders (internal and external).
