What will you be doing?

  • Exciting opportunity to work collaboratively and independently within Instrumentation, Automation & Control Services Team at Sydney Water
  • EA Level 12-B ($124,203.55 base salary plus superannuation)
  • 35-hour work week
  • Full Time Permanent Position

The Instrument Technician role will assist the business to deliver on critical flowmeter maintenance & ongoing project work on behalf of Sydney Water. The maintenance work will involve our strategic initiatives in the areas of Telemetry, Instrumentation, Automation, Pressure and Flow monitoring. Additional “on the job training” will be provided for the successful applicant.

  As a qualified Electrician – Instrument Technician, you will:

  • Apply Sydney Water safety procedures while working on assets
  • Complete required duties to a high standard, on time and to a specification
  • Undertake calibration and maintenance of field instrumentation including flowmeters
  • Perform commissioning functions for new flowmeters to ensure standard compliance
  • Maintain specialised flow measurement, pressure & monitoring equipment
  • Ability to understand & diagnose issues with monitoring equipment including RTUs
  • Perform electrical project work as required
  • Interpret and deliver scopes of work to achieve successful outcomes
  • Contribute and provide an active involvement in project team activities
  • Undertake field activities, including fault finding, in line with relevant work instructions and standards

About You

Committed to ensure the safety and wellbeing to all Sydney Water employees, contractors and our customers. This is a field-based role, and you must be able to work autonomously with an initiative mindset to make field-based decisions.

 You will have:

  • A Valid NSW Electrical licence with working knowledge of the latest version of AS/NZ 3000 wiring rules
  • Industrial Instrumentation certification
  • A current NSW drivers’ licence
  • A valid or the ability to obtain a current confined spaces certificate + OHS White card
  • Experience in the installation of electrical equipment in an Industrial Environment
  • Experience with performing modifications to wiring within switchboards and document any modifications
  • Ability to work under limited direction and to deadlines
  • Worked with telemetry and interfaced SCADA systems and wiring desirable
  • Experience with instrument calibration procedures and relevant Australian Standards desirable
  • Effective written, computer and communication skills
