We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Project Accountant to join our Project Accounting team. This pivotal role supports the effective financial management of projects, programs, and portfolios by delivering robust project reporting and accounting. The successful candidate will ensure the integrity of financial data to enable informed investment decisions and benefits realisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide timely and expert technical advice on project accounting, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), WIP capitalisation, internal controls, cost plan approvals, budget governance, month-end close, SAP CATS, variance analysis, and stakeholder engagement.
- Prepare project accounting insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making by the Head of Finance and Executive Team.
- Ensure compliance with project accounting governance, reporting standards, and risk management practices.
- Perform capital reporting data maintenance using S4HANA, EPPM, and CATS.
- Prepare reconciliations and audit documentation, and manage relationships with internal and external auditors, including the Audit Office of NSW.
- Support internal control improvements and contribute to regulatory financial reporting.
- Assist in the development of capital investment programs and long-term financial forecasts.
- Support project lifecycle financial reporting, benefits tracking, and post-implementation reviews.
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate project master data and WBS structures.
- Review and approve item creation requests and ensure correct linkage to Assets under Construction (AuC).
About You
- You hold a relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field, and are CA/CPA certified or working towards it.
- You bring over 4 years of finance experience in large, complex organisations, ideally within asset-intensive or regulated environments.
- You have strong expertise in project accounting—covering capitalisation, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and benefits tracking.
- You’re well-versed in financial reporting standards, accounting policy frameworks, and internal controls.
- You’re proficient in SAP systems (S4HANA, EPPM, CATS) and financial modelling tools, with the ability to produce clear, compliant reports and audit documentation.
- You’re a collaborative, outcome-focused professional with excellent stakeholder engagement skills, high integrity, and a drive for continuous improvement
