Community Engagement Manager

This role will be responsible for leading and delivering a coordinated, enterprise level view of community and stakeholder engagement for Sydney Water’s major projects, complex issues and regional programs (including planning, maintenance and capital programs) across Infrastructure Delivery, Water & Environment Services and Customer Experience.

The role sits within the Government, Stakeholder and Community leadership team, and will work within the Infrastructure Delivery group as a matrixed part of its leadership team. It will have accountability for successful delivery of projects which will traverse multiple functions and will make decisions with significant financial implications.

You will ensure the successful development and delivery of projects and programs in the eyes of stakeholders by providing strategic direction and coordinating expertise in relation to government relations, community engagement, strategic and tactical communications, media management, crisis management, brand management and customer engagement.

Requirements

  • A minimum 10 years’ experience working as a senior Stakeholder and Community Engagement or Corporate Affairs advisor in a major corporation, government department or agency environment.
  • Success as a people leader, that build and empowers high performing teams
  • Infrastructure experience (planning and construction) essential.
  • A proven track record in the management of complex community and stakeholder relationships that operate in a public arena.
  • Experience in developing, delivering and reporting against engagement plans as part of government assurance requirements for large and complex programs (eg Infrastructure NSW reviews, projects of state significance, Formal EIS for projects over $100 million).
  • Strong business acumen with the capacity to liaise and work with Executives and senior management and other Customer & Stakeholder Engagement team members to determine positions on public policy issues, both proactive and reactive.
  • Excellent understanding of the Australian/Sydney media (traditional, online, electronic), preferably with journalism, media, public policy and or government experience and
  • Experienced in leading crisis communication and emergency management communications supporting multiple stakeholders.
